One Life to Live’ Gets Some ‘Capitol Ideas’

(SoapOperaNetwork.com) — Llanview’s mayoral race garners real-world attention from “The Morning Call’s” political blog covering the Pennsylvania legislature.

“This one’s taking place entirely in the imagination of viewers of the ABC soap ‘One Life to Live,’ but the residents of Llanview, Pa., are being treated to a brutal mayoral contest between one Viki Davidson (Erika Slezak) and Dorian Cramer Lord (Robin Strasser),” writes John L. Micek, the state house reporter covering the political landscape in Harrisburg (the Commonwealth’s capitol city), for “The Morning Call’s” political blog Capitol Ideas.

Micek also references a post from the online blog 2 Political Junkies, which says that “This race pits two progressive women against each other. Both have complicated histories with Davidson having suffered with multiple personalities and being the owner of one of the town’s two newspapers and Lord having been the campaign manager for the previous mayor who’s now in jail awaiting trial for running a drug ring in Llanview. Same-sex marriage is a big issue in this race. While both candidates are in favor of it, Lord married her campaign manager in a mass symbolic same-sex marriage celebration this week and she promises to issue actual marriage licenses to the participants if she is elected. Long time watchers of Lord believe that she is heterosexual and her marriage is a campaign stunt.”

According the site, “ABC is reporting a close race with heavy turnout,” and that the campaign has drawn widespread discussion on the Internet. “This one reads like a soap opera, folks. But at least neither candidate got their mommy to write a guest endorsement of them in the Llanview Tribune-Gazette (unlike a certain mayoral race in Pittsburgh PA).”

Llanview residents were observed heading to the poles in full force on Election Day, however the race is expected to remain too close for the immediate future. Fortunately, one candidate will soon emerge victorious when it is revealed that she won the race by only a single vote. To further complicate matters, one young man realizes he must keep the identity of the person he voted for a secret in order to keep the peace with his girlfriend. And viewers can bank on the fact that it will create some drama for the teen lovebirds, as well as for the losing candidate.

Wow, just amazing. If this is true --how sad. But really when you look back at all of this writer's stories --when have they ever been cohesive or ended with satisfaction?

The baby-switch --all is well, no anger, no mental institution for Jess, no anger for Natalie and Jared --or Todd --thud.

B.E.--Dorian takes over, JARED causes Nashes death -Dorian blamed, Ray comes, Vannessa arrives, shoots Ray, Nora forces Dorian to give company back --thud.

Ray romances Dorian --leaves a few episodes later --thud.

Stacey comes, lies about Shane bone marrow --hell the story sucked -thud.

David is Asa's son, David's a buddhist, D&D marry, next week after truth and all its contrivances revealed --David leaves to be an ACTOR--thud.

David prefers have a seat to Dorian; super great with divorce; returns with lame reality show; mad because Dorian in sham marriage with boring Amelia; leaves for London --to meet new girlfriend presumably --thud.

Mitch is Rex's dad --poor Mitch --thud.

On and on.

Ok she loses. No way in HELL do I want her stepping in because Viki cannot take the reigns --the mayor would take office in January --Viki will be fine then. DORIAN LORD DOES NOT DO WITH SLOPPY FUCKING SECONDS.

The only thing that will give me any satisfaction is if Ray returns for Dorian.

Viki gets no screentime but scores a win. Dorian is on my screen and loses. I choose the latter. I highly doubt I'll be so philosophical in any way when it comes to David in relation to Dorian. I'm not saying I'm thrilled about the outcome, afterall Dorian is actually the candidate that we saw campaigning, but I'm able to move on from here to something else for Dorian. I hope wherever Ray is he saw the broadcast of the wedding and is ready to hop on a plane to Llanview. Yeah, my fantasy but there ya have it. I'm interested in the threats to Dorian and what happens with Amelia.

I like the fact that she gets screen time --but really she only has seven more episodes than Viki this year. It is because RS makes an impression. SON has the episode counts --that actually surprised me --I guess Viki is easy to ignore.

I wonder what is next --because I really have NO idea. I really do NOT want her to be mayor by default or temperary --I hate that idea. Nor do I want her as meddling mama.

I am not worried about David --he is out and will stay in London for the "social scene" which is clear to me a new girl in his life --Dorian is out of his life -he has moved on --it is time for her to move on.

I can deal with temporary mayor because we will see in that short amount of time a much more interesting mayor. It will show that it wasn't all about besting Viki as some have proclaimed but running the city and doing the things that she campaigned for if elected. If it was just about beating Viki, she could have said no to whatever the offer that has her as mayor temporarily. Dorian is the stronger candidate in more ways than one.

I'm not interested in meddling momma, either. I don't have a problem with Langston dumping Markko, though. I'm just not interested in Dorian having a direct involvement.

What's next? Dorian's still with Amelia and again, we have death threats. Beyond that, I don't know. The same would be the case were she elected mayor.

I want Langston to have a HUGE problem with Markko if he votes for Viki --Viki took him in for a few days --give me a break --his parents were mad at him for HIS actions --Dorian did not want him having sex with her daughter --but she stayed out of it --he was a rude ass when confronted by Dorian --his issues were really brought on by his own actions!!

Are we sure the death threats are a real spoiler --I hope so --but why stay with Amelia other than a short period to make it look real?

What of Mitch --is she still married to him? I wouldn't be surprised if they forgot this and simply slip it under the rug or have them not married for whatever reason (most likely for the gay marriage fiasco with Amelia)--it would be more of a story if they were legally wed and more interesting to me.

I am wondering how far Dorian goes with trying to legalize gay marriage. It may end with the election but if she is in office for any amount of time, I can see her fighting for this issue.

I think she may push for it. I wonder what will happen with Amelia --think she moves into the blue room?

Yeah, like where is the woman with whom Amelia was supposed to be involved before all this stuff with Dorian?

Yeah, where is she? Will she play a part in ending this sham wedding thing? What if it is Markko's mom?

Well, being still married to Mitch would make her marriage to David null, like that time Victor came back or something?? Not sure what that was about.

Aurelia Rivera - closeted liberal! I love it! She so needs to be Dorian's new BFF. Shopping in the city, bashing stuffy mean men, chatting each other up on the phone about their kids....

Of course, this probably won't happen if Langston and Markko break it off. I just hope if Aurelia leaves Ernesto, she runs straight to La Boulaie. FUN!

(I'd trade Stacy and Kim for Ernesto and Aurelia without hesitation. Greg and Rachel, too, really. I think that Greg and Rachel have a good following but Aurelia is "more my style," as my grandmother says.)

I love the idea of Aurelia being the one who is Amelia's secret girlfriend~ ha ha. I also love the idea of her befriending Dorian and seeing the two learn a little from each other. well, aurelia would surely get an education at least - about men and sex and power and independence and - if she started hanging out w/ Dorian! Those would be some great scenes....guess we'll see what's next on tap for our Dorian. Possibilities are endless. Wish TIIC saw it that way.
