HERE'S THE EVENT: Dorian's BIG GAY Wedding

No surprise to any of you by now. Right? If you are a spoiler-free fan, I apologize. It's all over the Internet and difficult to miss the HUGE news that Ron Carlivati has scripted a lesbian wedding for Dorian. Robin is interviewed by Michael Logan of TV Guide. Whatever your view, make it known to those in charge. We are Robin's fans. Let's show our support for her. Of particular import, is to express your interest in continued storytelling for Robin Strasser as Dorian and acknowledgment to the writers for giving the Emmy award-winning actress the opportunity to perform in scripted drama as the Network fights to keep OLTL and Daytime serials on the air. Dorian Lord as played by Robin Strasser is valued and an integral part of the OLTL tapestry and a vital part of the show's entertainment.

The scenes referred to above have been filmed. Be very clear about where you would like things to go in story for Dorian and that you would like there to BE A STORY for Dorian.

Well, I just have to say this after all my negative thoughts and feelings on this whole thing: Doesn't Dorian look fabulously gorgeous in the wedding pic w/ Amelia? I just love whatever she has on her head. Remember how great she looked the day of her and David's "un-wedding" ? RS just looks spectacular in white or cream.

No matter this storyline or the silliness of the show sometimes, I continue to watch OLTL and continue to support Robin Strasser. I will send her a note asap to let her know she has our support no matter what! I get the sense she needs to hear this right now.

Need to think about what I really want for Dorian after this and write TPTB a letter and CC to RS. I am one of the few, I guess, that wanted to see a REAL bicurious s/l for Dorian but NOT THIS. Faking to be gay is just silly. So I need to think long and hard about what I want and will articulate in a letter....I want to have respect for RC and Valentini and want to believe that they are doing their best and really do love Robin Strasser and Dorian. But how could they? I agree with most of you who think Dorian is being used to prop s/ls. This has been the case for most of 2009. This has to stop.....what a waste.

RS looks wonderful--her dress is almost exactly like the one she wore when David stupidly, cowardly, filthily, horribly etc etc etc left the great Dorian at the alter. While that was a dark day in the history of OLTL -perhaps a similar thing will happen, but Dorian will leave the bride this time.

Unfortunately, I think they are going to have them marry. But, RS looks flawless --don't know about the thing on her head --oh well.

I too need to think about what I will write and what I want --of course, Ray will be mentioned again. Thanks for this thread, Cheryl.

I must say, in regard, to this story, I am tired of people trying to hijack the story to create a pity-party for gays and lesbians. I do not mean to offend, but the gay part of the story is something RC cares about, it is Dorian and her fans getting screwed over. Nothing Dorian is doing or even RC is doing is anti-gay.

You made me laugh. Still not over that huh? LOL Robin looks beautiful.

And today's A's birthday. I so wish he was back on OLTL with Robin.

I wish Mr. Carlivati would write a story for Dorian and Robin that is shown with such thoughtfulness as has been the case with KISH.
Rocquie, I suspect that you are right about Robin. Robin needs to hear from her fans. I will get something out tomorrow -- probably a card. I will need some think time before I write to anyone. I will call, though.

I was so full of sadness and anger the day of David's jilting of Dorian. All your adjectives desribe exactly how it went down, rileyanne. It was sick, what he did, and yah a dark day in OLTL history,for sure.

I don't see it as anti-gay either, though I can understand why some would be offended. But it's not about Dorian and gays really; it is about her doing something crazy to WIN - something she does all the time (that often blow up in her face). Granted this is crazier than normal but not an anti-gay move. Pretending to be gay on this soap is stupid and campy but it's not meant to offend gays. But you're right ppl are hijacking the storyline (whoops it's not even a s/l and i need to stop calling it that. it's a couple scenes probably) to make it look that way and yup Dorian, RS, and us, her fans, get screwed once again. Will be very curious to see how this all plays out. I was surprised at how in TV Guide interview RS seemed to be opposed to the idea of Dorian actually liking a woman or experimenting with her sexuality. But oh well. Guess I'm in the minority on that one....it is definitely not uncommon for a woman to do that - experiment and dabble - yet want to ultimately end up w/ a man. So why not Dorian? I see her as an uninhibited and sexual creature. guess I'm missing something on that....

Not sure what I'm going to write either. Need to start jotting down some points I want to make. ....Will definitely mention A Martinez as well!

David leaving Dorian is an act that will live in infamy!

I will drop a note to her, as well. I will even handwrite it--my handwriting is atrocious, so this is something I do not do for just anyone. It will take time and effort. LOL

I hope she isn't feeling down. Do you think she is feeling "down" about this story? I am not good with catching the feelings of someone I do not know personally (unless they give more than subtle hints)? Glad her dog is getting better. I know what love a dog can inspire and how hard it is when they are sick.

A combination of the TV Guide interview (her real feelings on the gay marriage stuff seemed questionable) and her recent hotline message (she seemed ok but not great IMO) gave an inkling that she may just need to know that she hasn't alienated any fans with this storyline. I am speculating though, who knows what she is thinking. I just want her to know she has our support even if she gets a little heat for allowing Dorian to be used by RC and put out there in risky territory once again.

Yes, it's mostly empathy on my part, reading her responses and listening to the Hotline. Anxiety was my read, which calls for reassurance.
I have never quite returned to even wanting DnD together after the unwedding. I was willing to be open-minded after the last wedding but then that was shot to hell. DnD are missing the passion and it's difficult to recapture that after seeing Dorian and Ray. So to read that RC sees this lesbian marriage as part of the DnD love story only served to make me more upset. In what way is RC even attempting to make DnD rootable? He could attempt to write the romance.
Here's the thing for me when it comes to Dorian. I am open to most anything if it is written as part of a continuing story and has character integrity, sensitivity and intelligence.

I hate for her to feel anxious about a story and that makes me sad and angry with the writer who writes with such disdain for Dorian and female characters in general.

As for the story itself --I could be more accepting of it if there had been lead-up and there must be follow-thru. For example, show that Llanview is a very, very liberal city and that it has a large and active gay vote --this has not been done -the people elected Lowell and he was anti a lot of things. If she "marries" this person, I want, really demand, she wins and we see her in office and we see the women scheme together and I want Dorian to NOT be able to fight her attraction to a man (preferably Ray) and thus threatening the power play.

If it must be David --they MUST SHOW the passion between BOTH of them, not just Dorian. But in RC's interview where he BS'd about this love story, he posed the question will Dorian "ruin her chances with David" and marry --why would this fake-out "ruin her chances" if the hot affair with Ray DID NOT! STFU, RC!

I think the real problem is there is no planning --did RC plan this a year ago or a month ago --I think it is the latter. In SID when it was announced David was returning, it stood out to me that RC said he had NOT written David's return yet. I take that as he had no PLAN for his return, as well. This, more often than not is a cause for failure.

Another problem is the actors --TW and the Amelia actress leave me cold. Can you imagine Victoria Rowell in the part, Dianne Carrol, Portia diRossi --ellen's wife? For a bad story to work, the actors must be awesome --we have RS and that is it.

Not inviting SM back (something fans want) and using Amelia (wasn't she Melanie?)is a source of annoyance for me on so many levels. Also there is nothing about this actress that even remotely reminds me of Mel. SM played Mel with gusto. David getting all moral and siding with Viki, that never works for this Dorian fan. My sense is Carlivati is trying to engage Strasser's substantial gay fan base for the Kish storyline. That is where he is being attentive--with the Kish storyline. What I want as a viewer has been dissed on so many fronts but I am trying mightily to move beyond it. Carlivati's interview in TVGuide gave me insight into how he thinks on so many levels and it did not leave me encouraged to say the least.

TW played it with the breakup and since his return that David could give a fuck about Ray. So yes, it is a WTF that he should be bothered by Dorian's relationship with Amelia, when it is fake. But yeah, that's more insight into the writer.

1) TDH has NOT played Angel Mel for "many years". She first appeared AFTER Stephen Markle made an appearance as THE REAL MEL HAYES for the 30th anniversary episodes. That was June of 2008. It was AFTER THAT. So...TDH first appeared NO MORE THAN 15 months ago. Not yearS, plural

And

2) the girl-on-girl kiss many years ago that he refers to was between Dorian and MADAME DELPHINA, who was channelling Mel. Madame Delphina played by LEA DELARIA. A DECADE ago. I'm guessing TDH was still in high school back then.

I know. (Shakes head) I caught those. I figured you all would too--because it's inaccurate. I specifically wanted to get a read on what gay and lesbians were saying, outside of the ones we usually hear from in the columns.

Thanks for sending the blogs cheryl. Very interesting take on things! The more I read about this online, thinking maybe this storyline will get even more press than we think and RS could find herself being asked to do shows like Larry King Live, etc? Am I overthinking this or could this be a big OLTL media giant? This is a hot issue in the world right now. As dissappointed as I am about the s/l I find myself buying into it more and more. Well, not buying into it but intrigued by it I guess - how it is going to play out. Or I could just be in a good mood b/c I had the day off and am very chill tonight!

I agree though, intriguing as all this is it is NOT a storyline for Dorian. In fact, this will take place over a week at most, I bet. It is clearly a ratings stunt. Unacceptable for someone like RS! Whoops... now I'm cranky again!
